Illustrating Archaeology at the Irish fieldschool of Prehistoric Archaeology - Finds illustration in

For the past two years I have had the privilege to teach one day introductory workshops on the art of archaeological finds illustration for the Irish fieldschool of prehistoric archaeology in the Burren Co. Clare, Ireland (IFPA).

This season a new campaign of excavation concentrating on barrows and the later Bronze/Iron Age commenced with some exciting findings revealed during the excavations. To read more about the courses and research click here.

Every season I introduce two set of students to the exciting world of archaeological illustration in general and finds illustration in particular. The day covers the general history and development of finds illustration, best practices and hint and tips. Even though the day covers a lot of theory the bulk of the is dedicated to practical drawing with the aim to produce a viable illustration of an artefact by the end of the day.

Really looking forward to next year and my sincerest thanks to the students and to the director Dr Ros Ó Maoldúin.
